So, moving forward, I am making the latest version of Classic Shell open-source and adding it back to SourceForge ( ), where it all began. The new ways things are done make it very difficult to achieve the same customizations ![]() Andģ) Each new version of Windows moves further away from the classic Win32 programming model, which allowed room for a lot of tinkering. That leads me to point #2Ģ) Windows 10 is being updated way too frequently (twice a year) and each new version changes something that breaks Classic Shell. Even keeping it running on newer version of Windows is a lot of work. It requires a lot of effort to add new major features to Classic Shell and keep it relevant. I have other hobbies that demand my time, some related to software and some not. There were few factors that led to my decision:ġ) Lack of free time. It's a great program and I do recommend it if it works for you. If I don't hear back from Denys (the developer), I may have to try installing an older version. I haven't had this installed recently but it's worked fine in the past. If I set it to start with the Shift+Windows key, it doesn't work but the standard menu works with the Windows key. ![]() With either X or 10, if I set it to start with the Windows key, it doesn't work but the standard menu works with Shift+Windows. I went into the options again and switched back to Start Menu X, but it wouldn't work either. I figured out how to do that and switched to Start Menu 10, but couldn't get the Start Menu 10 to display, using either the keyboard or the mouse. I had noticed that a new feature is the ability to switch between Start Menu X and Start Menu 10. I was about to pay for it, but decided to do a little testing first. I installed this and saw the special offer for the paid version - very reasonable, as always with this company.
